What Will I Defend?
Thursday, January 22, 2009
Hi everyone,

In conjunction with Total Defence Day, we are going to write about what we seriously think we will defend. It may not be something grand or great, like My Country, but something simple or small, like friends, classmates, or families.

For me, I will defend my Malay traditions, which are simple, yet meaningful. I would like to pass on some of these traditions to my own children, and hopefully they will pass these on to their children and so on. With the rapid changes in our society and lives, I fear that the simple traditions would soon be forgotten. The tradition of shaking hands with other Malays when we meet (instead of just nodding our heads and saying 'Hi!') is very unique to our Malay culture. We kiss the hands of our elders (to show our respect) and bring our hands to our hearts (to show our sincerity).

What will YOU defend? Share your thoughts with me. Your blog on this topic could win you a prize for the Total Defence Day Blogging Competition :)

So, put on your thinking caps, Sixers!
